dear friends, 

one morning on the way to the doctor for chemo, I was talking to Thomas about my wrestling with the specifics of ," giving thanks to God for "everything" in our lives. and praising Him for everything in our lives" Really, my question was whether I had to actually be in a place of thanking God FOR the brain tumors--- or was I just supposed to be able to thank God for His provisions in/through the tumors: answered prayers, blessings, His will in Thomas' life etc.....basically, was it that I just needed to thank God for what He was doing in Thomas' life with the tumors or was my heart supposed to be at a place of thankfulness/praise for the actual tumors.... I was wrestling with it, because I so wanted everything I was doing to be "right", so that my prayers for Thomas' healing would be effective . I told Thomas I was struggling with it because it would be so hard for me to honestly be thankful and praise for the " actual thing " that was causing so, so much pain and suffering to my child....... after a lot of discussion with Thomas and back and forth-- Thomas ,always answering me patiently ,and then me saying , but what about this or that .. I asked Thomas, " how do you feel, do you thank Him" for" the tumors or how do you handle/feel about it for you personally?" .... Thomas looked at me and said, " mom, you think too much!!!! you are wasting time on rabbit trails. the bottom line is this: God sent His Son to die for me! if God never did anything else for me ever: if He never answered another prayer of mine, if He doesn't heal me, if I have brain tumors and suffer, no matter what happens to me ever, if He never ,ever did another thing for me again but that-- His sending Jesus for me- that is enough for me to Praise Him continually, daily , as long as I live..... so mom, just focus on that... praise Him for sending Jesus and quit worrying about the tumors! and being thankful for them or not---all we need to continually praise Him, is His sending Jesus. " so , it hit me this morning as I thought about Christmas and it's meaning... for me thanks to Thomas' testimony to me.... it is about , Jesus. that is God's gift to all of us---- thank you for blessing our family this Christmas season with your prayers , we are grateful.....

this is a poem, Thomas wrote for me and I want to share it with you for Christmas.

Holy Child

Gave light to a world Satan beguiled

Thank you for your faithful prayers for Thomas and our family. we can never adequately thank you for your prayers for Thomas. nor, can we ever adequately explain how much Thomas and our family needed your prayers throughout this journey--- the best I can do is to say, thank you for your prayers for our son, thank you for blessing our son. please know that we are forever grateful.

Thank you for all of the calls, cards, emails, letters, gifts, meals, etc.... Thank you for all of the outpouring of love and support from all of you--- from all over the world , literally!! please continue to keep in touch with us, you bless us. I will send updates on our family as well.

please continue to pray for our family as we try to live without Thomas. we know that we were not worthy of him but we thank God, that He gave Thomas to us anyway!! please pray that God will continue to be glorified through Thomas' faith and life--- Thomas' main request!

we hope to have the audio of Thomas' memorial service posted on our church website soon. you should be able to download it and listen to the service. I will let you know when that will be up and working.

if you have been impacted by Thomas' life in any way , if you know of others who have been changed by Thomas' faith and walk, or if you knew Thomas and have a favorite memory or story about him--- I would appreciate it if you would write me/or email me and tell me about it---- I am putting together books for josh and Zack about Thomas--- something that they will have about Thomas, that they can look back on later in life and read and know what kind of impact Thomas had and hopefully, it will help them understand all of this in years to come..... so , if you feel led to write about something that God lays on your heart about Thomas and this journey, please send it to me. I will put our contact info at the end of the email.

I was reading an essay Thomas wrote last year-- the title is, What is Happiness?. the last paragraph read: " As Christians, we can find happiness from knowing that there is a God who loves us and will never forsake us, but also in knowing that He is coming back for us. We are crooked beings in a twisted world, and until Jesus returns, the world will remain twisted. We are made straight by Him, and in only Him is where we can find our happiness, not in virtue, not in earthly possessions, not in anything found on this earth."

Dear Praying Family and Friends,

The Apostle Paul gave this testimony to the Philippian believers which could just as certainly have been Thomas Epting's testimony to us:

"...for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored (glorified) in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. "  (Philippians 1:19-21 ESV)  

At 5:30 PM Friday, November 24 Thomas received his "miracle".  The "miracle" of being ushered into the presence of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Thomas glorified God by his life.. and his death!  He is more alive today than ever before and completely healed! What a miracle !! Hallelujah, Thomas is "finally home" - no doubt about it!

Please continue to pray for the Epting Family - Thomas' Mom Amy, his Dad Tommy and brothers Josh and Zack. Pray that the God of all comfort by the Holy Spirit will be with them through out the coming weeks and months. He has promised- He is faithful. 

We have gleaned some quotes from Thomas himself from the emails that his Mom and Dad so faithfully sent us (Thank you Amy and Tommy)!  These quotes summarize the deep faith and insight of this young 16 year old son, brother, grandson and fellow pilgrim:

7/14/06 - Thomas' 16th birthday:
thank you for all of the birthday wishes, cards, calls etc... they have all blessed thomas: his comment, "mom, all of this is so unreal, i have done nothing to deserve so much from so many nice people."-- consider thomas totally humbled and  blessed by all that everyone has done for him!! thank you.

Amy asked Thomas today what his prayer request was, and he said, "that God be glorified and that His will be done in my life. That's all that matters."

i asked thomas this week , "what do you pray about this situation everyday?" -- thomas said," it depends on what i am going through that day, and what i need at that time, but mostly my prayer is  that God is glorified in this and that i don't disappoint Him and that His will be done in my life!"--- i asked him, " thomas, don't you boldly ask to be healed?"--- thomas said,"i ask for God's will for my life and  if He will heal me, i would like to be healed, but mom why would i want anything for my life that isn't God's will? if it isn't God's plan for my life that i am healed, why would i want that? God's plan is what is best for me!!!"

Thomas W. Epting, Jr.

GREENVLLE , SC- Thomas Warren Epting, Jr, age 16, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 24, 2006 after a courageous and faithful battle with brain tumors. Thomas had earlier battled leukemia twice. Thomas’ deep relationship with Jesus Christ was the most important thing to him, as was his desire that Jesus would be glorified during Thomas’ battles with cancer.

Born in Melbourne , Florida , Thomas was the beloved son of Tommy and Amy Epting. He was home-schooled and took classes the Home School Resource Center .  Thomas was a member of Calvary Chapel Pickens, SC. He was a Boy Scout of Troop 555 in Greenville .

In addition to his parents, Thomas is survived by his brothers Josh and Zack, his grandmothers, Marty Wagner and Helen Epting and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, S.W. Epting and Dr. David Wagner. A praise and worship service celebrating Thomas’ life will be held at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville , SC. The attire will be casual (Thomas d dressing up!). There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in remembrance of Thomas may be made to The Thomas Epting Faith Fund at Community Foundation of Greenville, 27 Cleveland St., Suite 101 , Greenville , SC 29601 , for supporting and ministering to children with cancer.

Dear friends,

After a very rough night at home last night, Thomas was admitted to the hospital this morning. The doctors think that there is bleeding in his brain, and this has caused him extreme headaches, nausea and only limited consciousness. His condition is grave, and he needs a miracle from God to make it. At this point he is receiving a lot of pain medication and is not conscious. We praise God for Thomas and still hope for a miracle, but from a medical standpoint, it looks close to the time when Thomas will go to live with Jesus Christ, free of pain and suffering. 

We love you all and ask for your prayers.

dear friends,

thomas went for blood work on monday. thomas' counts were good. thomas is scheduled for chemo monday morning if his blood counts (platelet, immune, hemoglobin)  stay up. please pray that counts will be high and that thomas will have no side effects from the chemo. pray for a healing miracle.

thomas still can't use his left side, please pray that God will restore use of thomas' hand/arm and left leg.   

thomas is having alot more pain--- especially headaches. please pray that the pain will stop. thomas never complains about any of this, thomas daily  perseveres with quiet faith and trust in the Lord, never questioning, always trusting, believing and loving God................  thomas needs a healing miracle from the Lord. please pray.

dear friends,

thomas went for blood work, checkup, and chemo on monday.  thomas' counts were good and he was able to get his iv chemo treatment. he has been very weak and tired since the chemo. please pray that he will not get any  bad side effects from the chemo. please pray that he will regain his strength as soon as possible.

thomas still has no use of his left hand/arm and leg.  he still can't walk and is very weak. please pray that God will restore the use of thomas' left side to thomas. i know thomas would like to be able to walk and to do things on his own and for himself--- right now he has to depend on us for everything.  as a 16 year old boy, i know he would like to be able to walk and use his arm -- be independent.  but, thomas has never complained about it ever! he is constant in his faithful , sweet spirit.... waiting on God... totally trusting Him.  i would just appreciate your prayers for him: his comfort, strength, and restored use of the left side.

 we continue to take  this journey one second at a time--- waiting on God for the strength to get to the next second--- this journey really puts you in a place of waiting on God for everything..... Ps 46:10 Be still and know that I am God... we are helpless in this, there is nothing that we can do to heal thomas, it is all God's miracle to do and God's glory to be given. we continue to walk by faith, not by sight. holding onto our faith in thomas' creator--- thomas will go Monday for blood work and a checkup. please pray:

1. that God is glorified in all of this-- thomas' main request

2. that the chemo will work miraculously in eliminating the tumors

3. that thomas' blood counts (platelet, hemoglobin, immune) will stay strong and that thomas will be protected from any sickness/infection

dear friends,

thomas went this morning for blood work and a checkup. his counts were good , Praise!!!! he will go again on thursday morning to have his blood counts checked again. Please pray that thomas' blood counts (platelet, hemoglobin, immune) stay high.

thomas is still unable to walk w/o assistance and even then , only a few steps. he has been very tired and weak over the last several weeks. please pray that thomas will regain the use of his left side:hand/arm/leg---- and that he will be able to walk again, and use his left hand/arm, soon.

we know that there is no "medical hope" for a "cure" ,in this situation, but the verse: II corinthians 5:7" For we walk by faith , not by sight." continually comes to my mind. i am sure things didn't "look good" to the israelites standing by the red sea w/ chariots approaching, nor did they" look good "to daniel in the lion's den, or shadrach and friends as they were put in the furnace but......... we aren't called to walk by sight. we are holding onto the hope of a Living God and risen Savior and are asking Him for a healing miracle for thomas. we know He can heal thomas w/ chemo(using it in miraculous ways) or out right, we don't know His plan for thomas in this but , we trust it and so does thomas.

another verse that is continually brought to my mind is Ps. 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God" --- reading this week i read that the Hebrew words "be still" literally mean "Take your hands off!"-----"Take your hands off and know that I am God!" ---- permit God to take over. this situation is all God's, we are helpless, the miracle and glory are all His. God and His miracle are thomas' hope. we continue to pray , asking in faith for that miracle.

please share thomas' prayer needs w/ everyone that you can.

dear friends,

      thomas went for blood work and a check up yesterday (monday). thomas' counts were high enough to get chemo-- Praise!  thomas had chemo and also a new drug that they are adding to try and reduce the tumors.  thomas tolerated the chemo well--- but, he is very weak.  please pray that he does not get any  bad side effects from the chemo or the other medication.  Please pray that the chemo will work miracles, in eliminating the tumors and that it will work quickly.     thomas had a seizure at the doctor's office yesterday-- please pray that he will not have anymore seizures.     we are scheduled to go to the doctor again next monday for blood work and a check up.  Please pray that counts are high.  ( thomas is now getting a higher dose of chemo every 2 weeks, instead of the lower dose  of chemo weekly so, the next scheduled chemo will be monday Nov. 13  )   

      thomas still has no use of his left arm/hand and almost no use of his left leg. he can't walk anymore w/o assistance and even  then he can walk no more than a few steps. please pray that God will heal and restore use of thomas' left side to thomas. please pray for thomas' comfort: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. he still has never complained, ever. never whined, ever.      i just pray for his comfort.... he has been through so much suffering in his life.   Ps.102:1-2 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the days of my trouble;  Incline Your ear to me; In the day that I call, answer me speedily.

1. that God is glorified in all of this-- thomas' main request

2. that the chemo will work miraculously in eliminating the tumors completely-- miracle.

3. that thomas will be protected from all side effects of the medication/chemo

4. that thomas' counts will stay high(Platelet, immune, hemoglobin) -- especially platelet and immune counts stay high

10, a complete healing miracle for thomas, that the Lord will be glorified in and that people will be drawn to God by. "He answered their prayers, because they trusted in Him."  1 Chronicles 5:20

       2 Cor.1:10-11  Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver : in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.  Ye also helping together by prayer for us....... thomas is scheduled for blood work (7:30) and a check up monday morning. if thomas' counts are good enough, he will have chemo on monday. please pray that thomas' counts are high enough for chemo. please pray that thomas will be protected from all side effects of the chemo. please pray that the chemo will work miraculously in eliminating the tumors . there is  no real " medical hope" for a cure for  thomas.    however, we are still hopeful. we serve a living God:a God of miracles:The Great Physician,who is not limited by anything.  thomas is in the hands of God-- and as i said in one of the first prayer updates, that  i sent in May when this began, i  believe that God, who spoke the world into existence in 6 days, can heal thomas' brain tumors. however,  we don't know God's plan for thomas' life. we do know He is able to heal thomas and we pray that He will give thomas a complete healing miracle.--( making the chemo work miraculously or an out right complete healing ) --- a miracle that He will be glorified in. a miracle that by seeing it , it will draw people to Him.      so, please pray.

Dear friends,  

Thomas has had a tough week. His left leg and arm are no longer working, and he must use the wheel chair if he needs to go more than a few steps. He has slept a lot this week and is groggy much of the time he is awake. We thank God that he has tolerated the chemo well and has had only one small seizure since Monday. However, overall, his conditioned has worsened. The chemo he is on seems to have had no effect yet, although the doctors thought it would by  now if it were to work. Thomas will get chemo again this Monday, assuming his immune system and platelets are strong enough. He will be getting a higher dose of chemo this time and another new drug which has not received before. There is a risk of bleeding associated with the new drug that we pray Thomas will not experience. Please pray that thomas is protected from any dangerous side effects of the new drug. 

 Please pray God will heal Thomas outright in a miraculous manner or through use of the chemo. Please also pray that he will he will be able to get his treatment Monday and that he will not have any bad side effects from the treatment. Please pray, too, that he will not have any more seizures. Thomas continues to have an awesome faith through this all - a faith that is really humbling and that we really cannot comprehend fully.

Thank you from your prayers and for all the wonderful outpouring of care through cards, letters, and meals that you have given to our family. We are deeply grateful.

Dear friends,  

Amy and Thomas are at the clinic this morning, and his counts are good enough for him to get chemo. We praise God for this! However, he has had a number of seizures this morning, too, and the doctors are considering adding a third anti-seizure medicine for Thomas to take.

Please pray that the seizures will stop and also that he will regain use of his left arm and leg. It is becoming extremely difficult for him to walk. Please also pray that the chemo infusion goes well, that it shrinks the tumors quickly, and that he has no side effects. We are thankful to God that he tolerated last week's chemo so well.

dear friends,

thomas went for blood work and a check up today. thomas' platelets have actually come up some! Praise!! (please pray that the platelets continue to come up!) thomas is scheduled to go to the doctor again on monday for blood work and a check up and if thomas' counts are high enough on monday, he will have IV chemo. please pray, that thomas' blood counts(platelet, immune, hemoglobin) come up and stay up so that he can get chemo on monday. please pray that the chemo will work miraculously in eliminating the tumors completely. please pray that thomas will be protected from the side effects of the chemo. thomas still has no real use of his left hand/arm and walking is very difficult, because he has lost so much use/function in the left leg-- please pray that use of his left hand/arm/leg will be restored. i will let you know how monday's appt. goes--pray that he will be able to get chemo on monday and that God will use it miraculously in eliminating the tumors.

Please Pray:

1. that God is glorified in all of this-- thomas' main request

2. that the chemo will work miraculously in eliminating the tumors completely-- miracle.--Jer.32:27 "I am the Lord...is anything too hard for Me?" Gen18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord?

3. that thomas' blood counts (platelet, immune, hemoglobin) will come up and stay up at strong/high levels-- especially thomas' platelet and immune counts. we praise, that the platelets were up some today, thankyou Lord!, thankyou.

4. that thomas will regain use of his left hand/arm/leg-- please pray that God will restore the use of thomas' hand/arm and that he will restore thomas' left leg fully.

5. that thomas will not have anymore seizures

6. that thomas will not have any pain

7. that thomas will be protected from any sickness/infection

8. protection of our other 2 boys: josh and zack--spiritual, emotional, physical protection

9. a complete healing miracle for thomas, that the Lord will be glorified in. Ps 118:17 i shall not die,but live and testify to the works of the Lord. thankyou for your faithful prayers for our son-- you bless us. amy

thomas is very tired and weak tonight. please pray for thomas' comfort and strength. through all of the years thomas has suffered , fighting leukemia twice(6 yrs of chemo etc) and now the brain tumors, i have never heard him complain (ever) not even once, but i know that he has to be tired, and i ask that you pray especially for his strength physically, mentally, spiritually. please pray for a healing miracle for thomas.

1. that God is glorified in all of this-- thomas' main request

2. that the chemo will work miraculously in eliminating the tumors-- MIRACLE!!!!

3. that thomas' blood counts: Platelet, immune, hemoglobin come up and stay up-- especially platelets at this time

4. that thomas stay well: NO infection/sickness of any kind

5. that thomas have no more seizures--that God will protect him from seizures

6. that thomas not have any pain

8.that thomas' other "body chemistrys" stay normal-- right now his sodium is low - pray it comes to normal levels
